One of the most impactful services offered by NCCHC Resources is long-term monitoring of correctional health care services inside of jails and prisons. Operationally, it’s helpful to keep an eye on critical areas to ensure high-level care continues over time. Monitoring access to care, completing chart reviews, chronic care processes, suicide prevention protocols, and evaluating emergency room sendouts are all ways to ensure a high level of constitutional care is provided in your facility.
Last month, while evaluating emergency room referrals for a large jail in the Midwest, we identified multiple gaps that resulted in more than one ER sendout. We met with medical and custody leadership to fill the identified gaps and were able to change policies and practices to prevent similar incidents in the future. While neither resulted in an in-custody death, there was definitely the potential for an adverse outcome. While it’s impossible to achieve perfection, if we work proactively and as a team, we can achieve excellence.
We love working with correctional health care and custody leaders and are proud to help ensure care is effective and liability is reduced. We are committed to helping you identify gaps in service, improve healthcare operations and reduce your operational and fiscal risk.
